This project involved completing one of the first product design assignments at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and participating in a design contest hosted by Innolux. The task was to design a lamp or a lamp product family for one of Innlux's product lines.
The word Loitsu is Finnish for a spell or enchantment, and the product is named after the spiral structure surrounding the lamp cover. Available in various materials, it gives the design a balance of modern simplicity and high-end style.

While thinking about potential concepts, I considered many options such as mechanical functions or use of led stripes. Eventually, the inspiration for the final design came from the company’s other product lines celebrating simplicity.
The wooden spiral around the lamp adds a touch of nature to the otherwise minimalistic design. I contemplated other designs with moving parts, but in considering the lamp's primary purpose, the simple form of the wooden spiral served the design best. This decision not only introduced an organic element to the product but also emphasized the lamp's core purpose. Loitsu product family includes a traditional ceiling light and a simple tabletop lamp, suitable for mood lighting, reading and light therapy use.
The design is not all about form but function as well. The attachment of the cover of the platform lamp is designed without any bolts and is as simple as a thread on a light bulb. With the tabletop lamp the design gets even simpler as the cover is sitting freely in a pit.
For modeling, SolidWorks proved to be the most comfortable choice for 3D modeling, allowing me to seamlessly translate the design concept into a functional and visually appealing model.
I heard through a grapevine that out of various rendering software Blender would be the best option for realistic lighting. Without any opinion or experience one way or another I decided to give it a go. When it came to the realistic lighting, the grapevine did not lie.
For the final marketing materials, I searched some royalty free interiors to use as a background for my designs. To achieve the desired outcome, all camera angles and lighting were customized by my capable hands.
Embedding the product in carefully selected interior became essential for presenting the lamp in environments that accentuated its design and functionality.
